What it is
We provide trauma-informed support for people involved in justice and community services, working collaboratively with the individual and the people around them. Services may include assessments and reports within COSPlus's confirmed service scope, therapeutic consultation, behaviour support planning and practical support relevant to community participation and transitions.
We work with individuals, families, case managers, justice services and community providers face-to-face across the ACT and surrounding NSW and by telehealth/online consultation more widely.
- Corrections and community corrections staff
- Youth justice case managers
- NDIS Justice Liaison Officers and support coordinators
- Family members supporting someone through release
Who it's for
Adults and young people who:
- Are preparing for release from custody, or have recently been released
- Are subject to parole, community correction orders or supervision
- Have a disability, psychosocial disability or suspected undiagnosed disability
- Have a history of behaviours that have led to breach, re-arrest or placement breakdown
Referrals can come from the person themselves, their family, corrections or youth justice staff, a support coordinator or a lawyer.
What it looks like in practice
Support is scoped with the individual and referrer according to need, consent, access and the confirmed service arrangement. It may include information gathering and assessment within COSPlus's scope, therapeutic consultation, behaviour support planning, practical strategies, collaborative planning and support for the people involved in day-to-day implementation. Any reporting is limited to the agreed COSPlus service scope.
How to engage or refer
Corrections, youth justice and community corrections staff can use the justice referral form, which captures the information we need about orders, conditions and release dates. Agencies wanting to commission a program or a block of places should use the organisation enquiry form.
Different funding arrangements may apply: NDIS funding where the person has a plan, private arrangements, agency arrangements, government arrangements, or organisational fee-for-service arrangements. Where a person may be eligible for the NDIS but has not previously applied, we can assist with the access request.
Outcomes
- Support focused on reducing escalation, strengthening routine and improving engagement
- Practical strategies relevant to community participation and transitions
- Support workers and family members with clearer implementation guidance
- Better coordination with relevant health, disability and community services
- Behaviour support planning that reflects the person's needs and agreed service scope
Common questions
Can you work with someone who does not have an NDIS plan?
Yes. Justice-funded engagements do not require an NDIS plan. Where the person may be eligible, we can support an access request at the same time.
Do you provide assessments and reports?
We may provide assessments and reports within COSPlus's agreed service scope. The purpose, audience and limits of any report are confirmed before the engagement begins.
